3. Splash Page- A page displayed for viewing before reaching the main page.
4. Spider or robot or bot- A web program that explores a website. Search engines use spiders to scan your site and store relevant details in its database.
5. Stemming - The inclusion of word variations and plurals of a term. A search can include all words that come from the same "stem" word. Examples: act acts, acting, actor
6. Stop Word- A stop word is a "common word" which is ignored in a query because the word makes no contribution to the relevancy of the query. Examples: I, the, you.
7. ROI – Return on Investment.
8.ODP- Open Directory Project. A huge human edited directory.
9. Mirror sites- Duplicate copies of a website, usually on a different server
10. Heading Tag - Tag that designates headlines in the text of a site. Examples: H1, H2, H3
11. Keyword - A word or phrase used in a performing a search.
12. Keyword Density - A ratio of the number of occurrences of a keyword or "keyword phrase" to the total number of words on a page
13. Keyword Stuffing - Using a keyword or "keyword phrase" excessively in a web page, perhaps in the text content or meta tags.
14. Meta Tags – Header tags that provide information about the content of a site.
Examples: Title, description, keyword
15. IP Spoofing - A method of reporting an IP address other than your own when connecting to the internet.
16. IP Address – A numeric identifier given to each internet connection. Allows data to find its way to your computer
17. Link Farms - Websites that have a primary goal of creating links between member sites. Link farms usually require a reciprocal link from sites seeking listings. It is a spam tactic and those site which take part in link farms may be penalized or banned by major search engine.
18. Deep link - A link to a page deep within a site rather than a link to the home page.
19. Doorway Page – A web page designed to draw in Internet traffic from search engines, and then direct this traffic to another website
20. SERPs - The search engine results pages.
21. Cross Linking – Having multiple websites linking to each other
22. Cost per Thousand – The cost for each thousand impressions of your ad.
23. Clustering – The process of listing only 1 or 2 pages from a website within the search engine results
24. Click Through Rate or CTR - A ratio of the number of impressions shown to the number of clicks
25. Cookie – Information stored on a user's computer by a website.
26. Cost per Click or CPC - The cost for each click through to your site. An advertising cost of placing your ad on someone's website
27. Above the fold - Web page content that is visible by a web user without scrolling down the page.
28. Alt image attribute – Alternate text – that describes a particular graphic. This text is displayed when the user hover the mouse over the graphic. Their main use is to make web pages accessible to the disabled
29. Back Link - A link from one web site to another
30. Blog or Weblog - An online diary for personal information
31. Adwords – Google’s – Cost Per Click (CPC) based advertising system.
32. Algorithm or Algo – The formula used by a Search Engine to decide their search results rankings.
32. Banned or de-listing -The action of a Search Engine preventing your site from appearing in its search results.
33. Cache – A copy of web pages stored within a search engine's database. Cache also refers to the copy of a site stored on an internet user's hard drive to speed up viewing of pages that you have already seen.
34. Cloaking – The action of showing different content to search engine spiders than you show to human visitors.
35. Dynamic - Web page content that is generated "on the fly", from a database
36. Inbound Link or IBL- A link from another website to your site.
37. Anchor Text - Anchor text is a text that used within html link.
38. Hidden Text – Text that is visible to search engine spiders but not visible to site visitors.
39. Below the fold – Content of a web page that is not seen by the consumer unless the consumer scrolls down.
40. Blind Traffic - Low quality traffic generated by misleading banners or SPAM.
41. CPA – Cost Per Action.
42. CSS - Cascading Style Sheets.
43. EPV – Earnings Per Visitor.
44. Hit - A single access request made to the server.
45. LS – Look Smart.
46. Page Views - The number of times distinct pages of a website are served.
47. Query - The execution of a search on a search engine.
48. RFP – Request for Proposal.
49. SE - Search Engine.
50. SEP – Search Engine Placement.

search engine that supports stemming might return results that include "eating" or "eaten".
52. Unique Visitor - An instance of a unique site connecting to your server.
53. URL – Universal Resource Locator.
